Step 3: Analyzing Competition
Our next step is to check out the competition for our keywords. Analyzing competition means to see if we can easily rank on first page of Google. You want all of your selected keywords to rank on first page. If there are too many strong competitors on first page you will have a hard time competing with those websites and that means little or no money.

There are few tools you can use to analyze competition.

Competition Research Tools:

SEOquake - Free analytic SEO-tool for Firefox, Chrome and Opera browsers. SEOquake helps to obtain an information about any site for a wide range of parameters such as page rank, Google index, Alexa and many others.

For demonstration purpose I will use SEOquake. So go ahead and install SEOquake first on your Chrome or Firefox browser.

We only care about being on first page for our selected keyword so we only need to analyze competition on first page.

Go to Google and type in 'Chicco keyfit 30'.

Here's the result page.

Understanding SEOquake results

Let's look at the information we got from SEOquake in more detail.

Title - Having a right keyword(s) in the title is one of the most important factor not only for SEO but also for searchers who are looking at your page title on Search Engine Result Page. As you can see all first three results have the product name 'Chicco keyfit 30'.

URL - It used to be important to have a keyword in the domain name, but as search engines are becoming smarter they have somewhat devalued the method.

Meta Description - Another way to optimize your website is to have a keyword in your meta description tag. As you can see all 3 results have keyword in meta description.

PageRank - Google uses PageRank method to determine the importance of a page. It ranges from number 0 to 10. I usually look for a PageRank of less than 3.

Backlinks - Also known as incoming links, are links that your website receives from various websites on the internet. Here you want to look for backlinks of less than 100.

Look for the following when doing keyword analysis using SEOquake:

1. Keywords in title tag
2. Keywords in URL
3. Keywords in meta description
4. PageRank of less than 3
5. Backlinks less than 100
